We Tried Blood Beer And Lived To Tell The Tale
The Blood of Ra, to be exact.
The GABS Beer, Cider & Food Fest 2019 is known for celebrating the best craft beer and cider across Australia and New Zealand.
While sometimes, this means fresh brews and zesty bevvies, there is the occassional brewrey that decides to buck tradition and play Frankenstein.
Which TBH, titillates us beyond words, so we decided to try a few.
Feast your eyes on a Kangaroo beer, Vegemite beer and something called the Blood of Ra:
Keen to head to GABS?
GABS Sydney is staged in Exhibition Halls 3 & 4 at Sydney Showground, Olympic Park. There are two 5-hour sessions held on Saturday 1 June 2019.
Session 1: 11.30am - 4.30pm
Session 2: 6.30pm - 11.30pm
What we tasted:
Kangabrew - Rare Bird Brewing
A Hefeweizen or wheat beer with native mountain pepper and a hint of Kanagroo.
FNQ-T - Hemingway's Brewery
A tropical fruit ale showcasing the finest of Far North Queensland's produce.
Coffee and Donuts - Wayward Brewing Co.
Purveyors Grumpy Donuts and Toby's Estate have joined Wayward to raise the bar. Milk stout base with literal mashed and fermented donuts.
The Blood Of Ra - Red Duck Beer
An Egyptian bread beer, with rye, ancient grains, Basilio sourdough, spices and fruit added. Unboiled, unhopped. A beer inspired by the ancients.
Grilled Pineapple and Smoked Bacon Neipa - Eden Brewery
If the Hawaiin pizza dabbled in beer, this would be it. Bacon, grilled pineapple and a heaping addition of controversy.
Unphogettable Blonde - Morrison Brewery
Malt backbone, with layers of thai basil, corriander, citrus, anise, spices and possibly even some fish sauce.
Vegemight Gose - Sweet Amber Brewing Co
A sour Gose with 20kg of Vegemite added. Fermented warm and with a dry finish. Brewed especially for GABS 2019.
