Woolworths stores just closed across Australia due to major technical fail
Customers shopping at Woolworths stores across Australia have been turned away as the supermarket chain faces a major IT failure.
The technical glitch saw hundreds of cash registers black out - forcing Woolies staff to ask customers to abandon their shopping trolleys and return to the stores in an hour.
The IT fail happened at 4pm today - one of the chain’s busiest times of the week. Around half of Woolworths’ 995 stores were affected nationwide.
Social media posts captured the confusion - while some joked about the supermarket’s cringey predicament:
A spokesperson told Daily Mail:
“We can confirm that an IT issue impacted registers in our supermarkets for a short period of time this afternoon. The registers are now back online in all our stores. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thanks!”
