Red Symons speaks out after trainwreck as hell interview

1 min read

It's been a hell of a week for former Hey Hey It's Saturday host Red Symons

Former Hey Hey It’s Saturday star turned radio host Red Symons issued an apology this morning for the racially insensitive comments he made during an interview with It’s Not A Race podcaster Beverley Wang last week.

During the trainwreck of an interview Symons made a string of awkwardly racist comments such as, “what’s the deal with Asians?” and “are you yellow?”

"The plan was to take on a serious topic, race and culture, and talk with Beverley about a range of related issues," Symons told listeners on his ABC radio Melbourne show this morning.

"I came across as racist and I was wrong in the way I conducted the interview.”

"This is not who I am, but I acknowledge on this occasion I caused offence and hurt, not only to Beverley but also to our listeners.”

Listeners however, seem to be more concerned with why the pre-recorded segment ever went public in the first place.

The segment has since been removed from the ABC site.
