Poor Sphinx.

YouTuber Brooke Houts is now under police investigation following the release of a video in which she appears to abuse her Doberman.

“Our Animal Cruelty Task Force has received numerous complaints about the video you’re speaking of and we are currently looking into the matter,” an LAPD media representative told The Verge.

The video, which Brooke claims was uploaded as a mistake, shows the young YouTuber explain that she is attempting to prank her dog.

Footage shows Brooke slap the dog - named Sphinx - across the face and even spit and punch at him.

After the initial uproar, Brooke tweeted an apology, claiming the incidentwas "out of character":

"I want to clarify that I am NOT a dog abuser or animal abuser in any way, shape, or form," she wrote.

"Anyone who has witnessed or heard true animal abuse will be able to clearly see that."

Animal welfare group PETA has also called for action.

According to YouTube policy, "content where there is infliction of unnecessary suffering or harm deliberately causing an animal distress" is prohibited.

The page goes on to explain that YouTube enforce a "three strikes" system.
