This New Harry Potter Game Will Have You Living Out Your Hogwarts Dream IRL
It’s the wizarding version of Pokémon Go
Remember Pokémon Go? The game the whole world was obsessed with? The game that meant going down to your local Coles for a single loaf of bread became a James Bond mission?
Well, it’s gotten a glow-up. And by glow-up we mean a completely unrelated but similar game has been released for HARRY POTTER fans.
That’s right Potterheads, there’s a game that will allow you to live out your Hogwarts dream in real life.
The augmented reality game is called Wizards Unite and requires you to search for ‘Foundables’ around your muggle neighbourhood. They could be “artefacts, creatures, people, and even memories.”
It will be your job, as a trusty witch or wizard, to return these magical items back to where they came from.
It’s not quite a Hogwarts letter but it’s good enough for us.
According to the game announcement:
“Your journey begins as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, established by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards for the purpose of investigating and containing The Calamity.”
According to a report from Eurogamer, each player can choose from one of three classes: Magizoologist (we have no idea what this is but it sounds cool), Professor, and Auror.
Each role has different skills and strengths, such as bringing down magical beasts, having “deep magical knowledge,” and casting spells.
But spells use energy so you’ll need to stop by special locations to reload. Oh, and you’ll also be able to track down ingredients to brew up potions and do other cool magical stuff.
Which is, you know, pretty cool.
As you step outside and explore the world, a real-time map will “reveal Traces of magic” and highlight the location of various magical items.
Hot spots include parks (are we surprised?), banks, municipal buildings, college campuses, libraries, monuments, zoos, art galleries, and more.
You will be required to “cast a variety of spells to overcome the Confoundable magic, keep the magical Foundables safe, and send them back to the wizarding world,” the game notes read.
“By returning Foundables you’ll earn unique rewards that can be tracked in the game Registry.”
There will also be a ‘Wizards Unite’ version of Pokémon GO’s gyms, which are called Fortresses.
Inside you can really put your magic skills to the test by participating in “real-time multiplayer battles against dangerous foes, including Death Eaters and soul-sucking Dementors.”
Sounds… dangerous. And cool. Have we said cool yet?
We don’t know much else about the game, but some cool GIFs have been released which give us an idea of what the interface will look like:

Because the world is cruel, cruel place, the game isn’t available on iOS devices yet. But we’re holding onto hope.
If Harry can defeat Voldemort with just the Expelliarmus charm, then anything is possible.
