A Christmas carol was just deemed too inappropriate?
What do you think?
It's the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas sales have started, your tree and fairy lights are up and Christmas songs are being played throughout the city.
However, there is one song that has caused some controversy. Ohio radio station has deemed popular Chrissy song, 'Baby It's Cold Outside' as inappropriate.
Now this track has been covered by many of our favourite artists, Jessica Simpson, Michael Bublé and Idina Menzel, Lady Gaga and Joseph Gordon-Levitt plus more.
However, in a statement from presenter Glenn Anderson the station believes "it seems very manipulative and wrong”.
“I do realise that when the song was written in 1944, it was a different time, but now while reading it, it seems very manipulative and wrong.
“The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended, but in a world where #MeToo has finally given women the voice they deserve, the song has no place."
Over in Cleveland, Star 102 posted a poll to work out whether they should be playing the classic tune:
Let's take a deeper look into the lyrics:
"I really can't stay (Baby it's cold outside)
"I gotta go away (Baby it's cold outside)
"This evening has been (Been hoping that you'd dropped in)
"So very nice (I'll hold your hands they're just like ice)
"My mother will start to worry (Beautiful what's your hurry?)
"My father will be pacing the floor (Listen to the fireplace roar)
"So really I'd better scurry (Beautiful please don't hurry)
"Well maybe just a half a drink more (I'll put some records on while I pour)."
So, the issue of the song is that the woman is insisting she must leave while the man tries to convince her to stay. The song has been subject to scrutiny for years, but is is fair?
To answer that question we turn to social media - duh.
Comedian Jen Kirkman had a lot to say about the controversy:
Have a listen for yourself and see what you think - maybe try and ignore the choreography.
