Cardinal George Pell, 77, has been found guilty of child sexual abuse after a trial in Melbourne.

Australia’s most senior Catholic was found guilty by a Victorian jury on December 11 in Melbourne.

The news can only now be reported due to a suppression order.

The offences occurred in December 1996 and early 1997 at St Patrick’s Cathedral when Pell was an archbishop.

Mr Pell is appealing the convictions.
