Say what? Will Smith pays loving tribute... to his ex-wife
And Chris Rock questions how Jada Pinkett Smith feels about it...
So Will Smith is either crazy or he has the most understanding wife.
Smith took to Instagram on Friday to wish his ex-wife, Sheree Zampino a touching happy birthday.
The actor captioned a photo of the former couple together a their son, Trey Smith, 26, with something very surprising:
"Happy Bday, @shereezampino. #BestBabyMamaEver! :-) I Love You, Ree-Ree."
The 51-year-old divorced the actor in 1995. But since then, Smith has married Jada Pinkett Smith and had two more children, Jaden and Smith
Comedian Chris Rock had the same thought as most of social media:
"Wow, you have a very understanding wife."
Zampino responded to Smith's touching tribute with:
"Awwwwwwwww...thank you baby daddy!!!!!! I love you back! And thank you @treysmith0011 for being the reason we came together. And to @jadapinkettsmith for being an understanding, secure, and absolutely AMAZING wife, mother, Bonus-mom, and Co-parenting partner! [heart emoji]"
Seriously, this is divorced parent goals.
Pinkett Smith also shared a birthday tribute:
"Happy Birthday @shereezampino!
"Whew Chile! It's been a hell of a journey between us and I'm grateful! You have been the provider of many ego deaths and profound lessons. And through it all, I'm so happy we've found space to laugh together, cry together and share joy together within our blended family. You've been a gift. I'm wishing you the world [heart emoji]."
During a sit down chat with Zampino on Pinkett Smith's Facebook talk show Red Table Talk, the pair delved into their past and how they have not always had a great relationship.
Pinkett Smith asked Zampino:
“Do you remember that conversation we had on the phone that one time?
“They were fighting words.”
Zampino said she had called the house to speak Trey who was just three-years-old at the time, when Pinkett Smith answered the phone.
Zampino said of the phone conversation:
“Very few times in my life I can recall being checked real hard where I didn’t have nothing to say.
“But you weren’t out of line.”
“You basically let me know, ‘I don’t really appreciate your tone.’
“And you hung up on me.”
Zampino then called back and things escalated.
“I happened to say, ‘B—- you living in the house I picked out.
“You said, ‘It’s my house now.’“
The situation only grew and Pinkett Smith said Will Smith had to step in:
“Will Smith let me have it.
“His take was, ‘That is Trey’s mother and that’s just not your place.’“
However, Zampino says Pinkett Smith also apologised:
“You would always say Re, I apologise.
“You always owned it. Thank you for that.”
Now that is a lesson in maturity.
