This is a first for the family.

The holidays are officially upon us, you guys. The time to panic-purchase 10 Myer vouchers because you left your shopping to the last minute is fast approaching, so get moving.

The Royals are well and truly getting into the festive spirit with news emerging that they've released their annual Christmas cards.

Kensington Royal's Instagram account shared the photos that feature on the Royal Christmas cards, and while they're each ridiculously sweet, Prince William and Kate Middleton's family shot has gone viral for a pretty interesting reason.

As Page Six has reported, the adorable photo - that pictures the family posing in a casual fashion - shows Prince George wearing jeans for the first time.

The five-year-old is seen posing in blue jeans, Hunter rain boots and a khaki sweater. The look is a lot more grown-up than the shorts we so often see him wearing in photos.

If you're unsure why this is such a thing, allow us to explain:

Until now, Prince George has been dressed in shorts because of tradition. Reportedly, the trend of young boys wearing shorts is linked to class.

An etiquette expert recently told The Sun that dressing young sons in trousers, rather than shorts, is perceived as “suburban”... for some reason.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also shared their Christmas card photo this week, which is a previously unreleased photo from their wedding reception. The black and white snap shows the pair staring off at a fireworks display on their special day.

Needless to say, it's a bit cute.
