Paris Hilton Slams The Simple Life Reboot In The Best Way
Paris Hilton has shut down rumours suggesting she is poised to reboot hit reality show The Simple Life with Lindsay Lohan.
The hotel heiress and her then-best friend Nicole Richie starred in the series for five seasons until 2007, allowing cameras to document the pair's attempts to forgo their usual luxuries and tackle low-paying jobs and experience life as cleaners, fast food co-workers, and farm hands, in rural areas of the U.S.
On Tuesday, fans of the show were given hope of the show's return after messages hinting at a Netflix revamp appeared on a Twitter account registered under the series' name. The people behind the unverified profile teased the idea of former pals Paris and Lindsay reuniting for the streaming service project by posting old images of the two stars side by side, along with the caption, "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer".
Another tweet hinted that the Mean Girls actress and singer would be providing the new theme song for the show, but, hours later, it appeared the whole thing was just a hoax as the account was suspended.
And Paris herself also took to social media to clear up any confusion, insisting fans had been duped by an impostor - although she admitted the idea of a reboot had previously been floated to her.
"FYI, Someone has made a fake fan account & invented this #TheSimpleLife rumour," she told her followers. "There is no truth to it.
"Yes, I love that show & I was approached again to do it. But I had to say no as I have an extremely busy work schedule traveling the world running my empire."
A representative for Lindsay has also dismissed the claims, telling the New York Post's Page Six:
"This is news to her team."
Paris and Lindsay were party pals back in the 2000s, but the two women have since lost touch, and in a recent appearance on U.S. talk show Watch What Happens Live, Hilton branded the actress "lame" and "embarrassing".
Lindsay appeared to take the insults in her stride, sending back nothing but love for Paris' latest single, tweeting:
"Love @parishilton congratulations on your new song!"
