Meghan Markle will celebrate Christmas differently compared to the rest of us

1 min read

There's a good reason for it though.

Being a former famous actress and now a newly-minted member of the British Royal Family, you'd think that Meghan Markle would celebrate Christmas Day being surrounded by piles of presents.

Well you thought wrong.

As it turns out, Meghan won't be opening any presents at all on December 25th. None. Nada. Nope.

In fact, no Royal family member will be opening pressies on Christmas Day.

The reason for this weird "no opening presents on Christmas Day" thing is due to a long-standing Royal Family tradition.

Due to the family's heritage, every member opens their presents as according with the Germanic Tradition, which is Christmas Eve.

Former royal chef Darren McGrady (via explains that the Royal Family "weave" in German traditions into their celebrations:

"The royals are of German descent so they weave in German traditions to their celebrations.

“After afternoon tea, they open gifts on Christmas Eve, as is the German tradition.”

If you don't believe us, you can check out the official Royal Family website because it also states that everyone will open their presents on Christmas Eve.

So what will Meghan do on Christmas Day instead of opening presents? She'll be heading down to St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham with the rest of the Royal Family for an exclusive service, as per tradition.

Hey, she gets to open her Christmas presents earlier than most so that's a win in our book!
