Jada Pinkett Smith reduced to tears during interview with R. Kelly accuser
"I'm just so sorry."
Following a sombre Instagram post regarding the spike in sales of R. Kelly's music after the release of docu-series Surviving R. Kelly, Jada Pinkett Smith quickly came to the conclusion it was necessary to dedicate an episode of Red Table Talk to the concerning issues being brought to light.
During the ep, Jada, Adrienne and Willow speak with one of Kelly's accusers, Lisa Van Allen, who has alleged she was in a long-term relationship with the musician at the age of 17.
"People need to remember that Lisa, you were a child on that tape," Pinkett Smith said.
"I think people got that twisted. The idea that those were two minors."
"I was 17," Van Allen agreed.
"When I started noticing that he was a liar and a manipulator was when I started putting things together that didn't add up."
Van Allen has alleged that at 17 she engaged in threesomes with Kelly and other underage girls.
"I'm just so sorry," Pinkett Smith is later seen saying, breaking down into tears along with Van Allen.
"Sorry you didn't get it sooner."
"The reaction has been so different this time around," Van Allen went on to share.
"I feel blessed, I feel like I'm a vessel, you know what I mean? To speak out for other young girls."
R. Kelly has denied all allegations made against him.
