Ellen Page criticises Chris Pratt for attending 'infamously anti lgbtq' church

"Maybe address that too?"

Chris Pratt is making headlines today after making reference to his church during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

As news.com.au shares, the Lego Movie 2: The Second Part star spoke about his faith and church on two occasions during the interview

Once when referencing how he manages his celebrity and another time when speaking about his diet - which is based on acts from the Book of Daniel.

“I did it [the diet] through my church,” he said.

“I was inspired by my pastor, we do it, it’s kind of like our Lent, you know, give something up. And so, for 21 days I had no meat, no sugar, no alcohol, and it was actually amazing, it was really cool!”

Ellen Page wasted no time in calling out Pratt for referencing his church, which has been inspired largely by Hillsong:

"Oh. K. Um. But his church is infamously anti lgbtq so maybe address that too?" She wrote.

She continued:

“If you are a famous actor and you belong to an organization that hates a certain group of people, don’t be surprised if someone simply wonders why it’s not addressed. Being anti-LGBTQ is wrong, there aren’t two sides. The damage it causes it severe. Full stop. Sending love to all.”

The anti-LGBTQ views many assume Page is referring to stems from a statement given by Brian Houston, the Hillsong global pastor.

Us Weekly magazine shares that in 2015 he stated that:

Hillsong is “a gay-welcoming church but we are not a church that affirms a gay lifestyle.

“Hillsong Church welcomes ALL people but does not affirm all lifestyles. Put clearly, we do not affirm a gay lifestyle and because of this we do not knowingly have actively gay people in positions of leadership, either paid or unpaid. I recognize this one statement alone is upsetting to people on both sides of this discussion, which points to the complexity of the issue for churches all over the world.”

Pratt has not yet given a statement on the criticism.
