The actors playing Simba and Mufasa in The Lion King remake have been confirmed!
All we can say is: Squeeeee
This is probably the most exciting news to come from the world of Disney since we caught word that Emma Watson would be playing the role of Belle in the upcoming adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.
Ladies and gents, we officially know who will be playing the roles of Simba and Mufasa in Jon Favreau’s remake of The Lion King.
The director tweeted out the announcement today and oh my Rafiki are we excited!
The role of Mufasa will be played, once again, by the phenomenal James Earl Jones (YAS) and Simba will be portrayed by Donald Glover (a.k.a Childish Gambino, a.k.a the perfect choice).
According to The Hollywood Reporter the film will not be live-action (no real animals will be used) but the latest technology will be put to work so that it will seem as though we’re watching the real thing.
When news first broke that a new interpretation of The Lion King was a go Disney said:
“We can officially confirm that The Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new re-imagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production.
'The Lion King builds on Disney's success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book,” Sky News reported.
No further details have been released about the remake of the Disney classic (stop teasing us, would ya!) but watch this space, because as soon as we know more, you will.
In the meantime, sing-a-long, anyone?
