K-Pop Megastars BTS Call It A Day Following ‘Relentless’ Schedule
And fans are... HERE for it?
We all need a break sometimes - and global celebrities are no exception.
Yesterday, Twitter almost broke with the news from BTS’ agency, Big Hit Entertainment, that the boy band would be taking an “extended” hiatus to get some well deserved R&R.
The statement read:
“We would like to announce that for the first time since their debut, BTS will be going on an official and extended period of rest and relaxation.
“This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentless[ly] driven themselves towards their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators. This will also provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly.”
For those not quite on the up-and-up, BTS first exploded onto the international music scene in 2013, and have basically not slept since.
How else do you explain six studio albums, six EPs, five tours, three movies and nine TV shows? Not to mention their international campaign against violence with UNICEF, and their address to the UN on the topic of self acceptance…
We could go on. Really.
Oh, they’re also the best selling artists in Korean history. And the only Korean act to top the US Billboard 200.
Okay, we’ll stop now.
The group - made up of members RM, V, J-Hope, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook and Suga - has a cult-like following, with fans of the group self-dubbed the ‘Army’.
The Army is well known for having an INTENSE passion for anything and everything the boys do, but appear thrilled at the news of a break.
There are already almost 500,000 tweets with the hashtag #RestWellBTS, with many promising to eagerly wait for their return to music.
The extended break comes just four months after the release of BTS’ latest EP, Map of the Soul: Persona.
