Selena Gomez Has Been Dethroned As Instagram’s Most Followed Woman

1 min read

And y’all know who by.

That’s right folks, Ariana Grande has just bumped Selena Gomez off her throne by thiiiiiis much.

At the time of writing, Grande has come out on top with 146 304 371 followers to Gomez’s previously title-holding 146 272 515.

The two are only eclipsed by soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who took the title as the most-followed person on Instagram from Gomez last October (we’re just ignoring the fact that Instagram has the most Instagram followers because #rigged.)

The dethroning has been a long time coming; Gomez has been notoriously absent from social media for a fair old while.

For over two years she held the coveted ‘Most Liked Person’ title, with more followers than Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber - you get the picture.

She also had the most liked photo on Instagram, which was an ad for Coke.

Gomez also has next to zip engagement with the platform, admitting in a recent interview with ELLE that she hates Instagram and doesn’t have the password to her own account.

She’s only posted six photos on the platform in the last five months; two of those posts are ads.

Gomez announced back in September that she would be going on hiatus from social media, and has since checked herself into an inpatient facility for mental health treatment.

Meanwhile back at the ranch, Grande has been raking in the followers, adding more than 13 million new followers to her posse in the last four months and upping the ante on her presence.

Her new Instagram title comes hot on the heels of her fifth LP Thank U, Next which has spent a second week at #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.

All hail the new queen of the 'Gram!
